There is an easier way to access this cap if you stay high and walk around. I went for the direct route, down the coulee and up the other side. Nice cap with a great view.

I used the parking coordinates in vdD's log, but I have to say I wish I'd had Mr. CanoeHead's foresight in thinking about an alternate access road to the facilities on the far side of the coulee.

I hadn't read Mr. CanoeHead's log before starting out though and didn't have any idea about possible alternate access at that point. After taking the steep path down and then up I crossed a couple of makeshift roads and thought “Hey, they must start from somewhere!” But by that time I'd done the work and it, actually it really wasn't that bad.

What a prime spot this cap is near! It's well worth the visit. After finding the cap in the concrete slab, I spent quite a while taking pics of the vista below.

Thanks for the cap!

We had scouted out the location the previous evening from the coordinates given for parking by previous cachers to determine the best path through the coulee. And then it dawned on me "they didn't haul that drilling rig over yonder through the coulee!". So I did my 'think like a drilling manager' and determined that I would have hauled that puppy in on flat ground. So up the road we headed to a wide open gate and hard packed road across the prairie to within 200 m of the rig and to within 80m of the cap ... darn near a drive up. The views from the edge were spectacular. TFTCap

The younger half of Team Count Smiley doesn't do well in the heat, so we saved this one for an early morning walk. Lucky for us, Mr. CanoeHead had correctly deduced that with a rig sitting not far from the location we should be able to drive up to this cap - no coulee traversing for us, we parked within 80m of the cap:) Fantastic views from this cap! Thanks OFTH.
