It was a bit of a drive from the Gordondale cap to this rather remote, but scenic location. We decided not to drive to the top of the steep dirt and rocky trail with the low clearance rental. At the top we searched around and only found two signs of the existence of a survey cap - GP #2 to the north; the remnants of GP#1 - broken GP snapped off at ground level on the trail with a long chunk of rebar beside it. On the hilltop our metal detector couldn't get the ping for a BGL cap due to everything having been covered by vehicle tracks. This one will need the heavy duty metal detector (bring it along TiE) and a shovel for sure.

Thanks OFTH for setting up this location with an outstanding view of the Peace River!

Well, let me start by saying this was probably one of if not the most rewarding cap I have done and for several reasons. First, it was a FTF, but that is really not that big of a deal. Second, it is a really beautiful setting with the river and valley. Probably the biggest reason was that fact that we had none of my usual cap hunting tools to make the find. When i approached the top of the hill, I noticed a GP, and immediately started digging with a broken shovel we happen to have in the truck. after several minutes, I realized that this was a post for one of the 3 rebars. I looked at the cap hint and made an educated guess where another rebar might be and looked down and there it was, another rebar. We happen to have a tape measure in the truck, so we attempted to draw a couple of arcs (although the tape was too short, so we had to estimate). We then started digging. After a bit of digging, I decided to look for the third rebar and within a few minutes, I was tripping over it. one more measurement and a bit more digging to find that the cap was not 10 cm below grade, but more like 1 cm and right in line with our arc!
