For the effort, this hike is probably one of the best in the Canadian Rockies, if not the world! An easy trail leads to 360 degree views up at Wilcox Pass. GeoJamie22 and I made use of the nicest day of our weekend to tackle Wilcox Peak. We made good time up to the pass then found a good trail up the peak.

The trail eventually petered out and we were left with some tricky moderate scrambling up to the summit. The way down was surprisingly way easier (maybe we found a better way?) and we made it back to the trail and descended down.

We made a right turn and [FOUND] this cap and the nearby virtual. A fantastic day out!

This cap was on my high priority list from when I first heard about the original brass cap cache. It was a couple weeks after our first hike up to this location for the wilcox cap cache, so I was all uppity about having missed something cool. Then of course GC.com smashed my favourite brasscap cache, so it became less of a priority.

Seems our misadventure last time was something the family wanted to do again though, so we hoofed it up the trail again this year!

Forest fire smoke obscures all vision, so no real clue if we have clouds or smoke. We get a slight drizzle for 5 min at the start, nice and refreshing, free air conditioning, then manage the rest of the hike to the cap without incident. (unless you count 15 minutes of fruitless searching an incident.) In the end I'm standing on a ridge surveying left/right, only to discover that my foot is 2" from the cap!!! woot woot shouts of joy. Everyone else was busily checking out the cool view nearby (barely visible through the smoke).

About 15 minutes of the route back it started to rain, then to pour. We hadnt brought much for rain gear, so the entire hike down was a soaking mess. The other 3 are much faster at downhill than i am, so ditched me in their wake. Luckily the dog came back to keep me company on the trudge down :) Another 5 hour trek i think but i REALLY wanted to find this cap :)

This has been on our list for sometime. We started fairly late, about 4:00pm, but the weather looked like it would stay solid for the rest of the day. All four of us hiked up Wilcox pass although by the time I made it to the cap I was the only one left, the rest having turned back. After the long uphill climb I was happy for a rest. This cap took me far further along the ridge than I had planned to go today, so far that I briefly considered attempting Wilcox Summit, but that thought didn't last long. After enjoying the view I headed back down from what is now our highest elevation find. We did run into some light rain then but that didn't give us any troubles. All four of us could write a different story about our afternoon at the Wilcox pass but each one of us very much enjoyed the hike. I would love to return eventually!

Well, after finding Wilcox Cap, it was a no brainer that this virtual was the next one. I again followed the GPS contour lines to work my way over to the cache. Not sure if there is a path or not, but the hike over was not bad at all. While I did encounter more of the heavy mists and rain on the way to Wilcox Cap, when I arrived at GZ, the sun was out most of the time.

To be honest, it took me a good 1/2 hour to get my eyes on the cap. It just eluded for a bit but eventually I found it. I think I was just a bit blind but was I happy to finally find it. After a couple pictures and drinking in the sights, I headed back. Quite the sights from up here. Worked my way over to the main trail and made the hike back. I won't forget as I was walking back the sun on face. Then I felt the temperature drop by about 10 degrees. I turned back to see a real dense fog rolling towards me. It almost felt eerie, like being chased. When it hit, the rain and snow started coming down. This lasted about 15 minutes then it was sunshine again - gotta love it.!

Funny thing as I just about finished the hike back. I met two couples working their way up. I noticed one gentleman wearing expensive dress shoes with the nice smooth leather bottoms. I mentioned the shoes, we all laughed but I really emphasized proper footwear and being careful when heading higher up the path. While in no way is this a wild trail but proper footwear and clothing is a must.

Thanks once again for another great virtual brass cap - a fave!!
