This cache is at the west end of the overpass over the Hangingstone River in Fort McMurray on Hwy. 63. We were actually here a couple of times. The first time there was so much water in the hole that we decided to come back. The second time, j0ckser was able to reach down into the hole to clean off the cap enough that we could get a photo. A big shout out to j0ckser; he had the tough job! I got to be the photographer! Thanks for keeping the brass caps alive.

GeoGuider and I were here more than once. It wasn’t until 30-Aug that we could get a decent view of the cap.

Hey, I'm not proud. I stood by and watched TiE do all the work on this one. There was no way I was getting close to that smelly, mucky pit of water. I did see a nice, shiny cap in the end thought. Thanks OFTH and TiE!

I dropped by this one at the end of the day yesterday and was confronted with a 2 1/2 foot deep and 2 1/2 foot wide hole filled to the top with smelly, muddy water. I prefer not to log caps without actually seeing them, so I left disappointed. This morning, we had a bit of free time, so I returned with 2 pails, gloves, rags and a trowel. It took several pails full of water to drain the hole, and then several more pails full of very wet mud. I got pretty deep and still didn't see a cap or a post. I noticed a rock a little to the side and after uncovering it, it turned out to be the cement column that the cap was embedded in. I got it all polished up with the numbers visible and just as I was snapping the photo, mud slumped back over the cap. More bailing and more polishing and I finally was able to get a clean shot. Phew! I was glad to be able to log that one. The cap is in pretty good shape. I suspect this one will be buried again when the next finder arrives so come prepared! Thanks for the cap OFTH!

This one was covered by a manhole cover made of ice. It was about 3 inches thick and when I stepped on in, I almost went down a couple of feet. Although I did not have anything to bail the water with me, I did use a stick to verify the round cap at the bottom. If this is not, enough, let me know and I will visit it again in warmer weather.
