The flood clean-up at Sicamous meant our usual trip west was off this month so we had to make other plans. TiE Jr was running in Edmonton next weekend so we decided to hook-up with him there and take the long way to Edmonton from Calgary via the Northwest Territories. Today's stop was in Hinton where we had time for a few unfound caps. This was the first stop of the day. We found the quad trail that passes for a road off the main forrestry road and took it to within 500m of the cap where overgrowth, trail water flow and branches causing geo-pinstriping on the truck meant it was time to park. I suggested that Mrs. TiE and Littlest TiE wait this one out in the truck as the past logs painted a pretty good picture of a tough bushwhack and a steep climb. There was no protest. I walked the wet trail to within 300m of the cap and then entered the bush. That had to be the worst bushwhack I have encountered to date. The lower section was boggy in places with lots of deadfall. The knee deep vegetation cover did a great job at hiding all these ground level features leading to some wet feet and scraped shins. The brush was pretty thick. I was thinking a machete would have been a good idea. When I hit the steep part I had to use my hands the whole way up. My first scramble that didn't involve rocks. I soon arrived at GZ and its view of bush, trees, bush and trees. My insect repellant did a good job at keep the mosquitos at bay, but the flies sure seemed attracted to it. Arghhh... The cap location was quite interesting. I spotted 2 reference pins with aluminum caps that looked prisitine. I then spotted the triangulation station cap cemented in a concrete cylinder and its target post laing next to it. Everything was in great shape. I found a more gentle and lighter bush way down the hill but then got trapped in the lower section and was not able to regain access to the trail until I was almost at the car. Phew! A memorable cap for sure. I understand why this one only gets visited every 3 years or so. Thanks for another challenge OFTH! More to come.

The last one of the night. We were planning on doing two more, but when we returned to our truck, the gas gauge was saying low gas and this truck does not go far at that point. Were were concerned since when we arrived, it said 1/4 tank. On the way to town, the gauge fluctuated a lot, but we made it and could have had enough fuel to do the other caps, but it was after 10PM and we had not had dinner yet and had to drive back to Edson.
Well this cap was really an adventure - especially with the auto-routing wanting to take every pasture access road in the area. Eventually with the process of road elimination we found ourselves parking about 300 metres from the cap site. The hike to the cap site was a pretty long 300 metres - lots of vertical and plenty of bush! Lots of fun - TFTH and fun - the picture is on the way!
