The journey continued north on the Mackenzie Highway with traffice sparse, plenty of light in the sky and some pretty decent, but wild countryside on view. Our stop here required full body protection as the cap is off in the bush about 70 meters and the locals were hungry for their evening meal. After finding the official cap on the concrete pedestal, we discovered the alternate cap on the way out of the trees.

The cap I loved so much I went back for seconds. I admit I never looked at the cap page for this one. I bushwhacked my way in (with shorts and sandals mind you) and came across an elevated cap with a marker post that was in great condition. When I got back to the truck and went a couple of kms down the highway I remembered a comment about it being in a concrete pedestal. A quick U-turn and I was headed back in the bush again, but this time to the right cap. Phew! A quick check of the La Crete ferry status showed us that it was still closed due to high water in the Peace River. Something to do with the angle of the loading ramps. Looks like the long way around to La Crete and closer to the uncontrolled forest fire. Thanks for the cap OFTH!
