STOVE PIPE ASC BRASS CAP IN A 20.5CM DIA STOVE PIPE, 55CM DEEP ON TOP OF CROWSNEST MOUNTAIN - ON HIGHEST POINT; 25M NE OF SECOND HIGHEST POINT ON MTN TOP elevation 2786m. 2019-08-16T20:00:00 Found it Ringrat BCP447 - Crowsnest Mountain [FOUND] I reached the summit of Crowsnest Mtn in 2011 and found the traditional cache, but for some inexplicable reason didn't look for the cap. Today I led a small group back up to the top and redeemed myself. We had the mountain to ourselves on a lovely morning for the walk up, were in the calm before the storm on the summit, and then got off the top fast as weather arrived. It ended up just being a couple of passing showers rather than the threatened thunderstorms, so it was just enough to make things slippery for the descent. The cap was easily located on the summit. 2009-09-13T20:00:00 Found it Andronicus BCP447 Crowsnest Mountain GPS reading N49 42.246 W114 34.418 What an increadible climb! Me and my friend Jimmy made this climb togeather. We left Calgary at 5:55AM, and got started up the mountian at 8:10AM. Although this was a very steep climb, this was super fun. We took a wrong turn on the first band of rock cliffs and had to double back. The scramble up the gully was a little tricky, but not too much so. We took tones of pictures, and managed to update Facebook (Jimmy, not me; I don't do Facebook) from the summit. Got the cap (super easy one), the summit log, the summit cache, and the cache at the tree line (FTF, nice). The way down was a lot easyer, but harder on my body. Skiing down the skree was a blast. We got some motivational poster style pics on one of the large rock upcroppings. We met 10 other climbers (plus a dog) either at the summit, or on the way back down. One of the climbers was at least 60, and way faster than us. Made me think that I could get in better shape. Man was I happy to be on flat land again when we got to the car. Oh ya, I almost forgot. Coincidentally, we were driving past Crowsnest Mountain last week and my son and I said that we should tackle that summit one day in the future. Sure enough, I get home and see a note this week saying that plans were in order to tackle Crowsnest Mtn this weekend with Sleepy_hollow and Reastick. Our plans then changed and off we went to Crowsnest Mtn today. I should preface this by saying that we have not done a scramble before and reading about the crux had me a little nervous (for the downclimb). In the end we had no real problems, learned a lot from the seasoned scramblers and had an absolutely fantastic time today. The scree skiing was a blast. What more could we ask for... great weather, fabulous views, new friend (nice to meet you Reastick), quality time with my son and a sense of accomplishment for taking on some new challenges. Thanks to SH and Reastick for their patience and guidance and thanks to OFTH for setting this one up! 2009-08-30T20:00:00 Found it Sleepy_hollow BCP447 - Crowsnest Mountain Takin It Easy (Larry and Matthew), Reastick, and I got an early start this morning to tackle this very lofty and scenic peak in the Crowsnest Pass. We arrived at the trailhead just before 9:00 am, geared up and set out to bag this fine summit. The trip to the summit was a pleasant one with interesting conversation, lots of elevation gain on the trail, the trip through the extremely pitchy crux, and a ton of scree (thankfully it was nicely packed). We arrived at the summit pretty much right at noon and met up with a couple of scramblers whom we had been following all morning. We discussed the views from the summit of which there are many, snapped pictures for each other, enjoyed lunch by the cap, and continued to take additional pictures. On the way down past the crux, we decided to take an alternate trail which led us to an interesting scree run, loose boulders a plenty, and generally a pretty challenging route - lots of fun! Our round trip track log showed a distance of 11.5 km, with well over 1100 metres of elevation gain. We arrived back at the car shortly before 4:00 pm and were thankful for a cool drink and a change of shoes. Simply a challenging, scenic cap location with terrific company - thanks OFTH for setting this one up and the picture is on the way.
