The cap itself was found relatively quickly considering all of the snow cover. Great views from here. TFTBC!!!! 2010-05-15T20:00:00 Found it van der Decken BCP468 - Beaver Creek Elev. 1574 metres It's a nice walk up from the township road. It begins with a descent to the creek, followed by an easy ford. I wouldn't want to try this one when the grazing land was occupied with cattle though. You're either crossing open pasture land or following cattle trails along cutlines for the complete trip. Today however, the entire area was deserted. It's a fairly gentle ascent once you cross the creek, with lots of level bits.,There is a spot or two along the way where you could create a workout for yourself if you were so inclined (I wasn't! <img src="/images/icons/icon_smile_wink.gif" border="0" align="middle" />). The cap itself it at the top of the ridge, buried under a small cairn of stones. It's in excellent shape, as you'd expect for a modern cap outside of the city, without a single tool mark to mar its surface. I noticed one reference point off to the south east; a metal rod marked with a marker pole. I expect there's likely two more there, but I didn't search for them. There are great views in pretty much every direction you look. Thanks for picking this cap in the hills. 2010-05-09T20:00:00 Found it Sleepy_hollow BCP468 - Beaver Creek TiE and I thoroughly enjoyed our short exploration of the hills and rangeland immediately east of Mount Burke and west of the Bar U Ranch. The Township Road to our trailhead is in terrific shape and there was ample parking along the road side. The ford of the Pekisko Creek within a few hundred metres of our trailhead was pretty cool at 6:30 am, but easy as it was a nice wide crossing spot often used by the local cattle. We headed SE from the creek and picked up a terrific trail along a cutline and in fact continued to the cap site on a series of cutlines and livestock trails. The views from the ridge were wonderful in the morning light. Thanks OFTH for checking out and setting up this fine cap location and to TiE for the fine company on the short hike. Simply a must do cap - great trail, short distance, minimal elevation, and amazing views. 2010-05-09T20:00:00 Found it Takin it Easy BCP468 Beaver Creek Posted N50° 21.361 W114° 22.681 GPSr N50° 21.361 W114° 22.681 Sleepy_hollow and I made plans for this cap the day it was published as it looked like a great little hike in an area not too far from home (well from my home). We set out nice and early and accessed the area using the TWP road that passes by The Bar-U Ranch and found parking right where the topo indicated an accessible cutline would be. From there it was a minor fording of Pekisko Creek and then following the cutline SE until it intersected an east cutline that accessed the ridge and finally a short ridge stroll to the cap. This was definitely the way to access the cap. The cutlines were wide and clear and used by the ranchers to access the area. There were openings in all the fenced areas for access except for one spot that was easily managed. There were great views for most of the hike from the flats near parking to the upper ridge. Notable views were of Mount Burke to the west and the valleys and ranchlands to the east. All in, the trip was just under 7km round trip and we completed the trek in about 2.5 hrs including time to plant a couple of caches. The elevation difference from parking to the cap was just under 170m. A really enjoyable cap experience with some great company. Thanks for joining me SH!
