We did manage to make it to this cap and a few kilometres beyond. There is some significant bushwhacking in this area and the occasional mosquito to make life a bit miserable. Thanks. 2011-10-29T20:00:00 Found it Sleepy_hollow BCP556 - Fallentimber Creek It was a fine fall morning to do a little exploring out along the Fallen Timber. As BVPete noted we had no problem finding a good trailhead with parking and then enjoyed the short ridgewalk to the cap site. After capturing our pictures of the cap we slipped down to the boggy patch clearing and snapped a few pictures of the mountains to the west and collected notes for a potential future hike. Simply a fun, short hike with minimal elevation gain and good company. This was just perfect for me after my almost 30km bike/hike yesterday. That being said, I wasn't able to log this one in until after a short afternoon nap. BVPete and SH were fine company as always. It was nice to not have to dig out a cap under snow for a change with SH. BVPete must have brought us good luck. This was our second cap trip as a trio. The other, Threepoint Trail, was my first hike with BVPete. As I recall that cap was was well exposed and protruding through the snow. We'll have to convince him to tag along more often (not that it would be too difficult). We explored the access road a bit further and found a nice viewpoint to take some more photos and check out a potential future cap from afar. Thanks for another fun cap outing OFTH! 2011-10-29T20:00:00 Found it BVPete BCP556 Fallentimber Creek N51° 27.836’ W115° 12.632’ Takin’ it Easy, Sleepy hollow and I went for a very pleasant walk in the woods today to find a newly published cap. TiE kindly did the driving today in his spacious and very comfortable SUV, they picked me up in Cochrane at 7:30 and off we went for our adventure. The cap was located on a low ridge about 5.5 Kms west of the Hunter Valley road. We were able to use an industry road (open to the recreational public) to get within about 2.0 kms of the cap, so our hike was of the shorter variety for a mountain cap. It also didn’t involve a lot of vertical gain, so there wasn’t any of that heavy duty sweating required, which was just fine today. We walked alone the crest of the ridge on the way in and encountered considerable amounts of windfall, most of which was relatively easy to avoid. The continued up the low ridge and soon arrived at the nicely exposed cap in a spot that once was free of trees, but now is mostly closed in; still a few views could be had to the west through the trees. We took our photos and had a bite to eat before starting back. On this leg we dropped down to large swampy meadows south of the ridge where we had great views to the west. From here we just followed the north edge of the swampy areas on animal trails which morphed into well used wider trails as we got closer to the vehicle. This lower route would be the better one to use to access the cap, with just a short steeper part at the end to get up the ridge with only minimal, if any, bushwacking required. All in all it was a fun walk in the forest with two great guys and a nice shiny piece of brass at the end. Thanks for posting this cap ofth.
