The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a place I remember fondly from family visits way back when. It still does something for me, and I don’t visit nearly enough. I figured coming down to this general area after work for a cap and a cache would be a thing to do. In hindsight I shouldn’t have gone to work today, but we all make mistakes. I suspect my mom would have enjoyed this hobby, if she hadn’t left the earth 100 days after geocaching was invented. I got an unusually good look at a garter snake on the pathway in, which was kind of fun. Not thinking to bring (or need) my metal detector, I scrabbled around at GZ for awhile before uncovering it. This is another cap that predates me, which is something I really like and no cache can ever do. But I was riding by the bird sanctuary today and thought I'd stop in and have a look. As I expected, the cap was right where I'd seen in back in May, about a foot east of the stump of the marker post. All it needed was to have the dusty sand brushed off it. Reports of its demise are completely exaggerated. It wasn't a completely wasted trip. I did say hello to one of the resident deer (who was completely unimpressed), and see a mama duck with three late season ducklings, and spot some of our white pelicans. You don't see them as much any more since their fish fast food joint (otherwise known as the weir at Harvie Passage) closed down. 2017-07-24T20:00:00 Write note nosweat6060 BCP710 IBS Grounds I just noticed the link on this web page for reporting a problem. I wrote a note for this cap yesterday indicating a "found" but ... PS. The steel pipe holding the brass cap is no longer there. There is just a small piece of iron in the cement that once held the pipe. This morning (Sunday) I set out a plan for 6 caps in the urban area of Calgary. Sunday morning is an ideal time for a visitor to tour the downtown. The plan was for 6 caps - with a couple involving some walking as well. I have some super photos of the city as well. Thanks again to ofth & vdD for setting up and maintaining this activity. I obviously did not check the nearby area closely enough. I will return to this spot the next time I am in Calgary and send you a note with the numbers on the cap so that the FOUND for this cap will be appropriate.
