BGL.,MANHOLE & COVER, 1 GP ON RIDGE ON S/S OF KIN COULEE 27 CM S OF MARKER POST 2018-08-19T20:00:00 Found it DanOCan BCP784 - Kin Coulee Park [FOUND] One of my rituals after the Southern Alberta Weekend (SAW) events in Medicine Hat is to go find a Brass Cap before heading home on the Sunday. I was pleased to see there was a cap in Medicine Hat that I hadn't found -- heck, I was surprised to see that no one had claimed a find on it yet. EmOCan and I parked at the bottom of the hill and I spotted a path that looked promising. She wanted no part of it (smart lady!) so I started up solo. I was only about 1/3 of the way to the top and I was already resulting to using my hands to try and hold my grip. Remembering my lesson from our near-disaster on Grizzly Col, "Never climb up anywhere if you aren't sure how you'll get down", I abandoned my climb and descended on my butt to the bottom. Now, dusty and defeated I needed to forge a new plan. I checked the satellite maps and -- of course -- there appeared to be easy access from the top of the hill, over by the college. That would be too easy, especially as seeing how the cap is listed with a 3.5 Terrain. I scouted the hill from the bottom, found a better looking route and proceeded to climb. Wow, I am out of shape as that little hill was a real lung-buster for me. Anyway, I made it up and soon spotted the marker post and the manhole. I had no tools but was able to pop the lid off and reveal the brass cap inside. Numbers are pretty worn but the cap is in good shape, as you would expect from one that is so well protected inside the hole. Just my third cap of 2018, but it was a fun one considering it is right inside the city.
