The area around Johnson Lake re-opened on July 1 so Mrs BVPete and I went and [FOUND] the referenced cap today. The area had been closed for the prior 6 weeks for Whirling Disease studies and mitigation. There is now an interesting story board describing the disease as well as a station to clean anything that gets immersed in the lake. The very old cap was a very easy find as it is about above ground level not far from the west end of the parking lot. After we located the cap and acquired the data we went on a very pleasant hike around the lake using the outside trail loop. We went very early to avoid the Banff crowds and to enjoy the cool morning temperatures.

Thanks for selecting this interesting old survey monument, it was a beautiful day to go for a walk in Banff.
